► NOW ON SALE ◄ GOOD CULT
A new play written by and starring River Donaghey
Studio 17, Manhattan · October 9 & 10, 2026
THE WORK
Each of us operates our life inside one of two contexts.
Survival
Source
In Survival, your focus is on staying safe. But to stay
protected, you sacrifice your personal power. You blame the problems in your life
on something (or someone) outside of yourself.
In Source, you don’t play the game of being right,
of being good, of being in control. You realize that life isn’t something that
happens to you. Life is something that happens from you.
Over the course of this five-day seminar, you will be given the opportunity to
identify which context you operated under when you walked inside the room. And which
context you want to have when you leave.
WHAT HAPPENED≠WHAT I HAVE TO SAY ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED
FIG. 1
THE AGREEMENTS
Every participant makes the following agreements before the seminar begins.
1. I agree to arrive on time. The room is closed once a session begins.
2. I agree to remain in the room for the full duration of each session.
3. I agree to participate fully and completely. When I do this, I give the
others permission to participate fully as well.
4. I agree to be heavy, deep, and real.
5. I agree that what is shared in the room stays in the room.
If you make an agreement and you break that agreement, what are you saying about
the value of your integrity?
PARTICIPANT TESTIMONIALS
“It strips people down to a human level.”
— Janene B., graduate
“Everything worth doing is a little dangerous, right?”
— River D., graduate
“Hey, it might be a cult, but at least it’s a good
cult.”
— Arthur D., graduate and volunteer
“In my opinion, a cult is never 100 percent benign. There is no
such thing as a good cult.”
— Dr. Janja Lalich, cult expert
Well, some people called it a cult. His parents
called it a “personal growth seminar community.” The woman who led it called
it “one big happy family.”
Good Cult is a solo show investigating the
history of his family’s New Age, self-help world to understand how it changed some
lives… and ended others.
